School Mission: Pikesville Middle School students will develop excellence in academics, character, and habits of mind by participating in student-centered learning experiences that promote 21st century skills.

Literacy

 

Goal: All students will achieve literacy proficiency as indicated by the MCAP assessment.

 

Raise the Bar & Close the Gap

Instructional Focus: Students will use text annotation strategies to cite textual evidence when writing and answering questions. (Informational Text and Argumentative Writing).

Instructional Focus: Students will apply word-learning strategies (identifying prefixes, roots and suffixes, context clues, synonyms) for new words encountered in reading texts.

 

 

Math

 

Goal: All students will achieve mathematics proficiency as indicated by the MCAP assessment.

 

Raise the Bar & Close the Gap

Instructional Focus: Students will receive explicit instruction (skills-based with students as active participants) when taught new material and complex math concepts and skills. The teachers will constantly check for understanding to make sure students are deriving meaning from instruction.

Instructional Focus: Students will participate in flexible grouping/small groups to accommodate learning differences.
